Absolutely. You can pick up good used winches cheap because the owner couldn't/wouldn't go forward to drop the anchor. Back in the early 80's, when I had a 255 Wellcraft Suncruiser (
yes, I know...), I used to swim/ride the anchor down and hand place it, if it was under 70' deep, to avoid damage to the reef. Now I have a sonar unit that tells me if I'm actually over top of the reef, or over the sand off to the side. Besides, I'm too old to swim down 70' any more holding my breath. 10',
