I think you saw a crab pot buoy and not a bird. If it was in the early part running in the flat water.
The run my buddy was making was a cut we have to run a lot for work. There are acres of salt marsh around you and tons of channels to explore. But there is only one way to do it to get from one end to the other without running aground even during high tide. The actual channel has about 8 feet of water at high tide on average. You can't make it at low tide. It is well off the beaten path. I had him run it back and forth several times to get it it down. When we run it for work we usually have customers on board so we need to be very good at it.
