OMC thought they needed the larger V-6 lower unit because of all the new power of the looper versus the cross fire. Two things about the first loopers back in 1985, they idled like crap but ran "like a scalded dog" and the first year VRO system had a filter in the oil tank about half the size of a match book, clogged very easy and fried the engines. OMC replaced them with a new larger filter. I put hundreds of hours on that engine.....many, many hundreds.

I traded it in on the first year 60 degree 175 hp OMC, the one with the optic ignition system, another outstanding engine!! Used it for three years and traded the boat.
