Fred,

Replacing the tiller arm requires a LOT of wrench turning with an "acetylene wrench" on many seized bolts, so don't blame you for considering a repower. There's a good reason that BRP made that part out of SS on the E-TEC's!

Those BRP 115's are probably bullet proof motors, but if you consider the cost of adding dual controls, steering cables, wiring harnesses, instrumentation, batteries, spare props, etc. plus factor in the cost of 2X more maintenance, extra transom weight, and 2X more stuff to go wrong, it might actually be cheaper to look for a late model "plug & play" big single. Plus if it won't plane on one motor, you'd be just as well off from an offshore safety/reliability standpoint with a kicker and a big single! I'd try to stay with a BRP vintage carb'd motor though (2001 or later Johnson), unless you can find a deal on a 2005 or later 3.3L E-TEC! ARG in Riviera Beach often has some good used motors, and their service manager Lenny is a good guy (an ex-coastie!) Denny
