Yes the putty was not squished down. When the deck was replaced by previous owner about 10yrs ago, they staged it on top of the previous edge leaving a 1 inch gap from the deck to the stringers.
this gap was evident when walking on the deck. We will replace with foam core deck with a nice crown attached evenly and consistently to the stringers which are in excellent shape
