Since Terry has chimed in(the guy who introduced me to Seacraft Seafaris), I can't resist.
Don't know the Makos personally, but let me tell a story.
A lot of years ago, I was in between boats, looking, wanted to go as small as possible and was a member of the St Pete Underwater Club(SPUC). Those guys were extemely hard core, go for broke divers and spearos. Bad weather, whats that? Winter, who cares? Lots and lots of deep experience with a huge variety of hulls in all kinds of weather. I asked around and found a consensus that the Seacraft 20 was the only boat in its size class that could stand up to SPUC punishment. Some other boats were considered good, but Makos did not even make the discussion. I bought a 20, dove it year round, usually 20-30 miles offshore,for years. Even if a diver is young and stupid(like I was), there is no way he can do that kind of thing in any boat that does not ride extremely well. The 20 is an incredible sea boat. Of course, the 23 is even better. If you really get lucky, you might luck into one of the old 25s.
Makos seem to be fine boats, but the ride of even their best hulls is very unlikely to compare favorably to a Seacraft.
