I used 80 grit glass bead with Awlgrip. I rolled on a coat of paint, sprinkled on the blasting media with a salt shaker, rolled again, and then peeled off the masking and sprayed the rest of the paint. It worked well, except that it's hard to clean. I don't know if that's related to the grit, or to the paint.

I tried the same process with gelcoat on a friend's hatch cover with less success. The gelcoat was a lot thicker, so it didn't roll out as well. It might work fine with a spray application.
