Do you think the film material is necessary or do you use it just for insurance? I have just relied on 5-6 coats of mold release wax and I have had good luck with just that so far. I would like to try PVA and see if it helps the release on more complex parts but didn't think I would be necessary on a flat part like the deck.

I won't lay a mold up with out it, there is nothing worse than the fiberglass bonding to your mold. PVA is an awesome product that insures it will pop off most of the time..... The problem with the wax is it absorbs into different material like that mdf. I still do two coats of wax than spray the PVA .
Plus it's easy to spray through an hvlp gun
