Just had an idea . . . you could accomplish the look of a motor well, and maybe IMPROVE the boat's low speed planning performance, by adding some bait/storage wells like the ones on this boat http://www.classicseacraft.com/commu...850#post228850 Could build some cheap easily removable ones out of wood and try 'em out to see how they work. Then if they pan out, make some good ones out of glass! They would add lots of buoyancy to stern of the boat as well as some dynamic lift, so might help correct the aft CG problem some guys create by trying to hang 500 lb motors on a boat designed for 300 lb motors!
