Well, it seems you are smarter than I. You are asking here. I asked at G&S and while George is familiar with these hulls, just not as much as the family here.
I like your idea about being able to use the space for storage.

I think if you cut where I did, it would work pretty well. Cut it like a pumpkin lid at Halloween. Make the angle as acute as you can. You would want to make the cut more accurate than I did. Mine is not visible, so I did not take great care when doing so.
Check your stringers while you are there. I had a slight delam of the first layer of roven on the port side.
My Slacker is now an antique in the eyes of Fl. DMV.
The well is all chop, but thicker than I had expected. 3/8- 7/16.
