Any reason why you guys don't like the hinged style hatch? If you're concerned about water intrusion, try wrapping a piece of vinyl over the top of a piano hinge. I replaced mine with this style a couple seasons ago and it has held up well - no leaks and sturdy enough to stand on. It's actually 3 pieces - one small stationary piece to fill the gap on the forward end and 2 separate hinged pieces. I made mine from a piece of 5/8 fiberglass board.
