I had a F225 (2003), and it was fine. My friend had two of the (2003 as well with well over 1000 hours) and they were fine. My mechanic had made the repair on another F225 and it was about $1200 parts and labor as I recall.
When i say "repair" I mean replacing the exhaust before any damage was done
I would not be afraid of owning another one, but I would build the cost of the repair into the purchase price and get the parts replaced.

that $1,200 number,that's about what it will cost in parts - there's a kit,available - that kit doesn't include everything you're gonna need.such as oil pump,replacement crank seal and sleeve,various bolts and other misc hardware required to complete the job...
labor is 8hrs...
a simple bore scope check,or pulling the lower unit and inspecting that way - not all were effected,and I've seen some way worse than others...
