Since it has the 2 box stringer configuration, that hull may actually be a '73 or '74 model. All the 72's I've seen had the original Moesly-designed 4 stringer system. Not that it makes any difference, as I believe they're structurally equivalent. Never heard of any structural problems with either one!

I believe the simpler box stringer configuration was Potter's attempt to control costs by reducing the amount of glass and resin in the boats, since the configuration change occurred after the Arab oil embargo following the 1973 Arab-Israeli war. The price of oil went up about 4X and caused a big spike in the price of resin as well as gas. I had been looking closely at new Seafaris at the Miami Boat Show back then and I remember the price of a bare hull jumping from $4000 to $5000 in just one year, so the newer stringer configuration must not have had a big impact on cost!
