Ended up replacing carb with a new reman, and replacing the entire distributor, including new cap, rotor, and wires. Found I had a blown headgasket between cylinders 2 & 3, and between 3 & 4. Water jacket was not compromised. Head and block were straight, so I put new headgasket on it. Also replaced manifold and riser/elbow, installed all new bellows, new lower shift cable, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera....

Then my wife tells me she like our Chaparral 198F dual console better, because it has more fishing room, we don't really need the cabin any more because the kids are now grown, and besides, she doesn't like to go offshore unless it's glassy calm.
