On my 23 (83), the cap narrows in that area. There appears to be a narrow, probably wood, core on the inside edge. I have a rod holder to the rear of that area that goes through that thick area. The area where your crack is, appears to be all glass and is quite thick. I would check on the underside and see if it is cracked there as well.
