Spot on Don. That's the reason why mine were not outside the rub rail. PVC board backing is easy & cheap (You like that word as its tattooed on your ass) to make. It glues to the plastic vents using pvc cement. Nice seam, sand & paint. If it ever gets damaged, oh well, make another. BTW, I got the vents for $8 each at the local marine parts outlet ! (now your really salavating !)
