I would have agreed, but I ran a 175 powerhead for the last 5 years. 175 May not be for everyones rig, but it worked for me (until I ran it through a sandbar). Based on my own experience and input from merc 150 owners, I took a gamble. We'll see the only downside is buyer's remorse.
175 held 10 - 12, 14 17, 20, 24 mph no problem through Buzzards Bay slop . . . topped out 42/43. Supporting video evidence (both calm days) : )

I also ran a 225 3.0L carb Mariner with a Rev4 19P for a few trips. I was shocked by the fuel/oil consumption and sold it. Caper do you recognize the seats?
