Is there any reason not to continue outward with the flare returning more water away? The only ride detriment I can think of (albeit valid) is getting pushed around more by a wall of water in a mixed up sea while quartering in to it.
Any thoughts or insight in this?

Gillie, Mr. Moesly told me that he intentionally designed the 21 with very little dynamic lift, "because if there is a lot of vertical motion, you're not making much forward progress!"
I believe Moesly fully intended to race the boat from the start, so he was very focused on a good ride and wasn't particularly concerned with how wet it was! That wrap around windshield also provides pretty good protection. Most of the race boats don't seem to have much flare in them, and neither does the 19' Bowrider, which was his second design. The big high bow provides enough buoyancy to keep green water off the deck but doesn't create the lift you'd get with a lot wider flare. On his 3rd design, where he modified the 19' hull to create the 20, he did add a narrow 3/4" wide flat at the chine on the front 3rd of the hull, which makes the 20 ride quite a bit drier than the 19. I would suggest that the addition of such a flat at the chine would make the ride of the 21 quite a bit drier in moderate conditions with very little change to it's awesome ride in really rough conditions! However the average guy probably does not run the boat in big seas often enough to really appreciate the 21's unique capability, and a dry ride is a big selling point to the average boater, so you might be able to make a good business case for also adding more flare and the graceful clipper bow like Moesly did on the 19->20 modification. Maybe that would allow you to make it a "Moesly 23" that rides much better than the Potter 23!
