Not a dumb question at all, going through the same thing as I repower this winter.
I am going to be linking my new Crusader to my Garmin screens (2 840xs units). via NMEA 2000. The Garmin will have RPM, volts, temperature, oil pressure, essentially all the vital info. In between. both screens, I will be putting a tach and two fuel gauges for each tank. I was concerned at first that I needed to have an analog gauge as a backup for everything, but my shop convinced me that I'll be fine. At the very least I want to know my RPMs if NMEA went down. The engine will have an audible oil and temperature alarm.
