You are right there. I know the pass here where I am at in the Neuse River in NC can get really bad. The Neuse has the largest river mouth on the eastern side of North America and the mouth is close to 7 miles across which is open to the Pamlico sound. There are barrier islands blocking it from the ocean but open as the sound is sometimes it is hard to cross. Lots of people cross to fish big Drum in a certain area near the mouth and get trapped not able to return to the north side of the river. I've been out there with swells so bad you drop into gullies where all you can see is water above your head both sides and I've seen it where it was close interval chop with white water as well. Fishing these grounds is what made having a SeaCraft so attractive.
