The welder where I work will spray "Easy Off" (oven cleaner) on the areas to be welded. Takes the finish down to bare aluminum ready to weld after cleaning with acetone. Takes the anodization right off. When I replaced my fuel tank I cut it up before scrapping. I was amazed how bright the inside was, as fresh as the day it was made. Made me wonder if replacement was really necessary. Did pay for some of the beer.
