I did the exact same thing on my 18.
Two Group 24's in the console kinda under the front seat hatch on the console.
One start battery and one house battery, with a Blue Seas ACR (Automatic Charging Relay).
Ran the 4AWG battery cables to a couple of terminal posts in the transom and hooked the engine to those.
Battery switch in the console.
Did my new-to-me 23 Sceptre the exact same way last year as well.
Batteries were in the enclosed transom, moved them to old fish-box (which was covered over in the re-decking) right next to the helm. Although I think I used 2AWG on the 23 because of the long run.
Really helped with the way the boat sat on her lines.
