Take a measurement with the hatch open connecting the 2 points where you want the strut ends. (i would put one on the gutter flange as far forward as u can port or stbd, and the one on the hatch will end up wherever needs to be, probably somewhere midway front to back). The open measurement will be the extended length of the shock. Transfer those 2 points to the outside of hatch n gutter with a pencil or tape or whatever and measure with the hatch closed just to make sure the compressed length will work and not bind.

Check out ameritool 625 style. Get the stainless ball end with lil stainless circlip keeper kinda thing... Marine connection liquidators has tons of em for 30$ + brackets, one of the few deals there lol
