You're good!!! In my brother's case they cut out the transom and threw it away (dang thing was incredibly heavy with the old wood, etc) , bonded the pre-cut coosa with 1708, tabbed the inside with 1708, then two layers of 1708 across the whole inside and on the outside three layers of 1708 to tie it in to the hull, then fair and sand. Yeah, it's strong.
