You only want to do this once. Pull the deck so you can see everything.
Stringers may or may not be fine. You don't know the history of the boat and who has
done what over the decades. It only takes one point of failure to compromise
structures and allow water ingress.
I would raise the stringers 2 inches and build as light as you can.
