I have a 3" lip around my entire engine on the deck. The doghouse sits flush, outside of it and have 2, 6" or 8" stainless hinges connecting the front of the doghouse to the deck. I have the ability to fold the doghouse all the way down (it's super heavy and need 2 people) to have full access, but also installed electric hatch lifters, that allows me to lift the hatch up 20" forward, so I can check oil, etc without having to lift it all the way down.
