DJ - Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest buying anything new right now! That's crazy! Sell high buy low. They keep emailing me offers for my land cruiser, and then there is this champion on craigslist (photo below, that's a used truck). Why wouldn't you take the money and run?
On the buying side, I'd wait until there are a few more cars (ok fine SUVs) back on the lots. Could be 6 months, could be a year or two, could be in 3 months. I'm targeting August, as thats when next years models (2023) are supposed to start showing up, and there can be some urgency about moving the last of this years stock... in a non-COVID timeline.
One more Toyota nugget... they keep the same body style for 6-10 year cycles, but each year they fix/redesign the stuff that gets broken by users out in the field ("Kaizen" for you cunning linguists out there). What this means is that generally you do not want to buy the first few years of a body style (anyone remember tacoma/tundra frame rust recall!?!?!), and that the best versions come out the last year for that given body style. So if you can find a 2021 Tundra, that is the best that body style will ever be, and Tacos are ripening on the vine, right now. Not sure if the same is true for GMC/Ford/Dodge. It's funny to me that they are calling the new tundra "electrified" when it's just a hybrid. I guess "Tundra EcoBoost Prius Edition" might not appeal to the rolling coal crowd, or someone buying a pickup truck for $75K.
