Sounds to me like your cutlass bearing is possibly failing. With the wheel off ,pull on your shaft , if there is any play then your bearing is probably hosed. i understand that boatyards have a tool that will remove it right over the shaft. Last one I did I ended up removing the whole shaft first, then the strut, took it to the yard to get the old removed and the new one pressed into place. Is the problem just at 3000, or from there on up?. craig
