Default Anchor's to Fishfinder's

West Marine is having a "Friends and Family Day" w/ hypothetical 'deep discounts' this weekend.

I'm a friend...

I'm looking at a few purchases if the discounts are deep enough. I would like your input:

Garmin 240 "Blue" Depth/Fishfinder - Like or not ? Any other rec's in that $300-$400 ? I want it for bottom contour mostly. And, transducers ? I know a book could be written, and probably has - but what is working best w/ an i/o ?

Also, what anchor you using out there to hold these hulls down ? I have a windlass and I am a ' bigger is better ' guy, ( NO! not in terms of the ladies ! No offense ) - so I was thinking of the West Marine Performance 12... What'cha think ?

Lastly, cockpit lights. I want to put in about (4) surface mount - under the gunnel. They need to be built for the weather. I'd like to go LED, but am afraid that they won't give enough light ( I'm not looking for daylight light - just enough to see fine at night )...

Thx guys,

Alan

I have the Garmin 188c GPS/Sounder unit. Works very well. Garmin makes quality stuff.

I also have a Fortress anchor.....I think it is the FX-11....which is overkill for my 23' Mako but it works well. The FX-7 is the next model down and I believe is rated for up to a 24' boat. The FX-11 is rated for up to a 32' boat.

Oh yeah....."the other tom" has under the gunnel cockpit lights on his 25' Whitewater. As I recall they were the led typed and provided enough light for Mark to reel in that monster grouper (yeah, right) off of Ft. Lauderdale.

and I agree with John .... I would think you could do better then West for electronics...After I saw what they charged for some items like THROW AWAY resin cups ....forget it ....I use them for Bottom paint and "emergency" stuff only ...If your not in a rush you can find most of the stuff online for less cash ... Sale or not
