I WAS THINKING ABOUT YOU AND YOUR TRANSOM REPAIR JOB. KNOWING YOU WANT TO ADD A BRACKET AFTER THE JOB IS DONE. HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED INCORPORATING THE TRANSOM AND BRACKET TOGETHER WHEN YOU DO THE WORK. I HAVEN’T HERE OF ANYONE DOING IT BEFORE BUT IF I WAS GOING TO DO A TRANSOM AND THEN ADD A BRACKET I WOULD THINK OF HOW I COULD PUT THEM TOGETHER AND MAKE A INTEGRITAL BRACKET TRANSOM JOB TOGETHER LIKE THE CONTENDER OR SOME OF THE OTHER BOATS. THAT WAY YOU WOULD HAVE THE BEST OF BOTH AND A LOT CHEAPER WITH NO BOLTS THROUGH THE TRANSOM TO ATTACH THE BRACKET. MAYBE LIKE THE NEW 25’ SEACRAFTS ARE SET UP.

Great Idea Fellow Ship. I am kicking myself for not doing this when I was re-doing my transom.

If I am not mistaken. "Desparado", from this site has done this type of restoration. I think he incorporates the main stringers into the new bracket/Transom. Very cool and in my opinion "smart" idea.

Hmmmmm

No I haven’t ever thought of trying that ..... I'm still trying to convince myself that the brackets the way to go....and unfortunately there aren’t that many around to get a ride on!!!! If fact I know of none in my area.....the last one I saw restored (IT WAS AWESOME !!!) ended up in Maryland somewhere but that guy was approaching $ 40,000 in the boat and didn’t even have a new motor yet [img]images/icons/shocked.gif[/img]

Doing an integral bracket would scare me ....at least with the pre-fabbed ones you know what to expect , in some cases, of the boats performance when its all done.....plus I would think the time to build something like that would be astronomical.

I'm not even sure I want to attempt the transom rebuild, as the restore would be from the outside. Seems there will/would be alot of work needed to assure that the transom is "true" so at some point it could accept a bracket.....

I don’t mind doing the glass work (hatches, decks etc…) but that’s major structure and would not even know where to begin and with my luck the motor/motors would fall off going out the Inlet…….And to have someone build it for me……we’ll from the prices I’ve seen for work that is much more straight forward such as the transom restore…..it would be cheaper to buy new…..with an integral bracket

That being said … I think Desperado said that he was working on an integral bracket of some sort...It would be interesting to see how that comes out.

LOOKING BACK AT IT BEFORE I DID MY TRANSOM, DECK & CAP I WAS A LITTLE SPOOKED ABOUT THE WORK MYSELF. BUT ONE OF MY SAVING GRACES WAS THAT MY BOAT WAS SO BAD THAT NO MATTER HOW BAD I WOULD HAVE DONE THE WORK IT WOULD BE 100 TIMES BETTER THAN IT WAS BEFORE, PLUS I WAS GOING TO KEEP IN AND ONLY LET A FEW GUYS ON IT THAT ARE NOT RELATIVES IN THAT WAY IF I SCREWED UP NO ONE WOULD EVER KNOW.

Thats the thing ... mine isnt that bad..... To the point I may throw it in the water just to play with it a little......just cant play for too long as the fuel tanks not in the boat and would only have 10-15 gallons of fuel available.

Hopefully Desperado can share some of the pics of the new stringer system he put in "his" boat and how that brackets coming along.
