Default gear oil leaking

wondered if any one knew why gear oil would leak from a small hole on the lower unit. I think i have "R" drive.

Possibly the shift shaft seal, assuming you're speaking about the small drain hole near the front of the lower unit, about 1" below the upper edge.

Thank you for your reply. I guess i need to by a repair manual so i can fix. I run in salt water so hopefully i caught it early enough.
