Default Comment from Regulator owner

I was fishing near Ambrose channel today for decent size striped bass (15 to 25 pounds).

When i was anchored up this guy drifts by me in a brand new 26' Regulator w/twin 225 4 stroke Yamaha's. I commented to him that it was a great looking boat.

He said thanks, but it falls short when compared to a Potter built SeaCraft. He said that his brother has a 23' SeaCraft and it is his favorite boat. Since I was sitting in my 23' 1978 SF SeaCraft when he said it I took it as a great compliment (as should all SeaCraft owners)

Very cool, Peter. Wish I could come home to sit right where you were and drift for those big stripers. So, how was the bite? Absolutely killing me to read the Bass Barn. Unfortunately your spring, if you can call it that, has been crappy, but sounds like the fish are there. Coming back Sept. 11. Three days in Monmouth County, mostly surf, eleven days on the Cape, boat and surf, and three days in Monmouth County before returning to SC. Catch 'em up, and enjoy the compliments, I mean the 23. Vezo, Part II.

When i fist pulled into the spot there were probably about 20 boats in the area. It looked like 7 or 8 boats had fish on at the same time. The bite lasted about 2 hours. I caught 8 bass from 15 to 25 pounds. The 25 pounder was just under 38 inches, but very fat. All on clams.

Dude, I'm drueling. How were the conditions at the Hook? Usually the snottier the better. How's the flounder bite just inside? Do you get out during the week? Own rods, tackle, and fuel money. Got room Thurs. 9-15, Fri. 9-16, or Thurs. 9-29 or Fri. 9-30? I have not fished a 23 yet. Thanks Vezo.

It was not that bad out there. It was snotty north of the hook (from Romers to Swinburne island was quite choppy).

The fluke are just starting up. There were probably 50 plus boats fluking just inside of the hook between the bug light and coast guard row. The fluking should improve alot over the next several weeks.

The first bass over 50 + pounder of the season was just just caught. Rumor has it that the big bass are startng to stack up near Shrewsburry Rocks. The cow season is about to being. Last year in June you could go out and in 4 hours you could catch over 10 bass that would weigh between 20 and 40 pounds (all on live bunker or bunker spoons). Now is the time to come up here is you want excellent bass fishing.

I read that you will be coming up in the fall. Last year we had our best bass fishing in the first week of December. There were acres and acres of them heading south and you could catch all of the bass that you want, either on jigs or plugs. After catching tons of bass we would then go over to eithe Sandy Hook reef or the Rattlesnake and target Blackfish. Now that's fishing.

Yes, we have had bunker in Raritan Bay for at least the past three weeks. Our hot tickets items have been bunker (live or fresh chunks), clams or bunker spoons.

Also, i just heard that the real big bass (the 30 to 50 pound schools) are starting to show up now.

One ineresting thing that i have noticed is that on the surface the water temperature has not been climbing too much. This past Saturday it was 58 degrees, which is about the same temp that i saw 2 weeks ago.
