Now that I have a 23 CC project...to go with my 20, I was wondering if anyone had narrowed the motor notch on a 23 to accept only a large single motor (Suzuki 250 is my plan)? Basically reducing the opportunity for water to come over the transom area. My plan would be to raise the transom to 30 inch and narrow the notch (ultimately would look very simialr to a 20).

Ha Tex;
Ya, I thought of that myself about 6 months AFTER I did my transom. As they say timing is everything. You could even enlarge the two back storage boxes it you did. FellowShip _______________________________________________ My motto: Just for the Grins ![]() |

On mine they used Starboard about 4 to 5" high on top of the transom, seems to work just fine and doesn't look bad they did a decent job.

Fellowship,
I plan on rolling on gelcoat on for the bottom of my 20 like you did...any particular gelcoat you recommend? How many rollers did you go through (roughly)? I still have a link saved to the cooler seat you sent me as well...may end up on my 23. JW

I did something similar when rebuilding the transom. I also was uncomfortable with the water sloshing in the motor well while drifting. The new transon design has completely eliminated the problem.

Ha Tex
Since I really hate working on the bottom of boats all that stuff falling on you face, while you are laying on your back and I did not have any means to flip the boat over or to suspend it up in the air since I worked on my boat in the driveway of my house on the weekends I had the bottom paint soda blasted off by a marina and had a guy I new who had a glass shop do the gel coat job for me. He lifted the boat up 4-5’ in the air removing the trailer and did it. I really don’t know which brand of gel coat he used. But I really like the bottom gel coated and the sides and deck painted. Kind of the best of both worlds I did a day of tough up gel coating in May this year on a few nicks and it is nothing to fix up dings and stuff after it’s been done.
