Default Hull vents 1978 23 SF

I know the topic has been covered but it seems that some of these boats have diff. size vents. Mine are 16 -17 " long and are in need of replacement. Id love to find some stainless louvered vents that DO NOT need to enter the opening but be mounted externally.

Any suggestions? Ive looked through commercially distributed catalogs from Attwood, Taco, Buck Algonquin, Perko, and others and no luck. None of the available are as long as mine except the plastic jobs that have to be cut (for the back two) to fit.

Who knows where to find some 16-17"long stainless ones that fit over the hole not in it?

I would check with West Marine Catalog they might have the rite size. I really did not like the look of those vents so I filled my holes in.

BoatersWorld.com has them. They are made by White Cap and are 16 7/8" long-PF

Are they stainless or plastic? If they are not external to the cut out, they have to be mutilated out of the box so I guess I need cheap plastic ones to cut up. Boy it sucks.

I thought that I got my last vents from West Marine and they were the right size.

EagleOCNJ-I have plastic ones on my 79 23SF that are newer that have been cut along the back. I like the idea of the ventilation even though they are a pain.................

Yep if I have to cut them Im gonna be forced to go with cheap plastic ones. Shame to mutilate stainless - and more difficult for sure.

I'm on my third set of plastic ones on the stern. They keep breaking at the dock. I like the looks of the plastic ones but we need to find a way to make them out of metal so these dont keep breaking. The original design had a guard that went around the vents.

Eagle

I think those stainless ones that PF Flyer is talking about are too narrow for the '78 cutouts. The '78 is much different from the earlier vents.
I also toyed with the same notion and failed to find ones that would work. Without some hull modifcations you could make a backing plate that would reduce the cutout to accomodate a flush type vent either plastic or stainless.

I did the above and then painted them to match the hull. The originals stuck out too far and past the rub rail and were always getting cracked and scraped. Maybe this will give you some ideas
