Ha Guys
I have been re doing a bunch of smaller projects on my boat. Lately I have replaced 3 gunwale rod holders, replaced a antenna bracket for the vhf with a SS one, replaced two rope cleats with pop ups, replaced my sumbrella canvas for the t-top with Pro-trim, re did my electrical wiring and fuse boxes, re placed my window shield with a new one, replaced my sliding doors for my electronical box, put on those new SS SeaCraft emblems. I also have a bunch of other projects on the slate like. Replacing the GPS antenna last weekend it took a dump, adding another through hull fitting for draining my live bait tank, installing in line through hull scuppers through the transom instead of the 90 degree through the hull, I ordered 2 new axels for the trailer will replace them soon, going to replace my rub rail, going to replacing with SS the bilge and those two small hatches through hull fittings. Any way I am looking for opinions on this project on my list which is do I just buy New or should I remove and Fill In with composite material and glass and paint where my old grab rail are. My grab rail is now 31 years old and doesn’t look new any more. I can replace it with new for approx $500. or I can remove the old one fill in the 90 degree angle and have no grab rails and a cap that goes straight across the top and then straight down. I as well as every else the fishes off the boat say they never use the grab rail, they break up the cap with aluminum busywork, and most guys just sit or lean on the cap anyway. But if they go and I fill in would that look better than or worse than its original look? There is a third option as well which is have a marine cushion guy fabricate a cushion for that 90 degree area. Money or my personal efforts doing the work is really not a issue here. Appearance and purpose is more my goals. SOOOOO what do you think? ![]() FellowShip _______________________________________________ My motto: Just for the Grins ![]() |

Replace the rail. At your age you need to hold on at every step

I'd replace it with a new one like Trader showed or have one custom welded. Almost all the top end CC's have that recessed bow rail. You never know some day it may save someones butt.

I saw a 23' SeaCraft that replaced the rail with aluminum and those vertical posts and it was a real improvement over the original design. If I had a 23', that would be on my list of changes.
