Default 4-stroke repower for 18

I have a 1978 18’ with 1996 200hp Yamaha . I put a new transom on and raised it up 5 inches for a 25 inch shaft. So the weight of the 200 or a four stroke should not be an issue. She runs 60mph with a t-top… but I have the four stroke bug. I would like to get mid 50’s with a FS. Does anyone have a 150 Yamaha FS or a 175 Suzuki on their 18???

My fishing bud has the Yam 150 4s on a 20' Sea Hunt WA (I know, I know, but...)Cruising he's getting 4-5 mpg with about 40 top end. Sweet motor! You may also consider the 175 Suzuki.

I will take a few pictures this weekend. Has anyone with a 20 considered 150 Yamaha FS vs 175 Suzuki FS?? They seem to be priced very close. Will you get the same resale on the suzuki?

Here is one of the 20Sf's with a 175 Zuke. It just sold. The seller-thetowboat got good resale $ for his boat/motor combo.

No, the resale is less-on the Yamaha F150-Joke I think the jig is up with Yamaha being the only good motor co.. You can't go wrong with any of them these days. I'm looking for twin homelite 4-strokes myself

I think your looking at another 50 lbs with the f150 yamaha,do you have the original gas tank? the tank well has room forward to add approx. 15 gallons to the 30 gallon original tank. a little extra weight forward will help balance things out.

I saw a 20 last weekend that had a 175 Zuke on a 20 with a bracket. He had completely redone and taken out the scuppers in the corners, had some others in the middle of the back floor. I noticed the boat sat pretty low in the water, approx 5" below the waterline at the stern. You may have raised the transom but it would kill the self bailing in my opinion unless you also raised the floor.

I have a 150 2005 4-stroke on a 20 CC. Great motor, quiet, lots of power, easy on fuel, but it's heavy. I don't think you can go wrong with the Yami, the Suzuki, or one of the new 2-stroke fuel injected deals ie. E-tec. I have local (my road) service for the Yamaha and Suzuki is out of town. They are all sweet motors. My 20' is an 1986, so it measures 20' 6" and it's a heavy boat with no t-top. 40 mph at 5000 rpms.
