Go watch them catch mullets on a NorEaster in E. NC. Take nets out with beach launched skiffs, pull em in with tractors. Layer with salt in 50 gallon buckets. Eat later.

Oh, you'd all be surprised if you saw what all is legal in terms of fishing in NC. I've seen them bring in the nets countless times and the species (now dead) of bycatch they toss back just baffles the mind. Large sea trout, red drum, etc, all so they can catch a few "spot".
The commercial fishing interests are so deeply in bed with the politicians (Marc Basnight seems to get a lot of credit in this dept.) that a number of people I know who are avid anglers have sold their coastal houses due to how severe an impact the inshore commercial netting has done. If anyone wants to see how NOT to manage a fishery, cruise on over to North Carolina! |

Your exactly right. They've decimated our brown shark stocks as well. They whined up in shark-fin soup over in china. So now their in decline here.
![]() I found that funny that their saying eat local fish support the commerical fishermen, when I know for a fact that most of those fish get shipped out over seas. What a bunch of bullshit!

stuff like this irks me to no end. thats not fishing thats raping and pilliaging the ocean. thoses "fisherman" should get are just damaging it so others dont have a chance at catching a fish the traditional way.

I could not watch the entire video. f%$^** ridiculous!! Here in Florida we all voted for the net ban in the early nineties and fishing certainly improved subsequent to the net-ban legislation.
With the exception of a rare lobster and wild salmon, I dont buy any seafood either at the grocery store or restaurants. I dont want to support commercial fishing on any level. Presently, Long-Liners adversely affect our grouper fishing here on the West coast of Florida...Very frustrating... During periods I can't get out and fish, I just eat more poultry.. take care guys..

This stuff bothers me, it is inefficient, but in reality it is a measly 3 day (wasteful) fishery that's take is less than one days take in other places. If this was something open season for a month or two I'd be greatly pi$$ed but it is only 3 days. We could do a lot more for bass stopping the midwater herring trawls and cutting the menhaden fishery in half

I hear and agree with what your saying John but being only a three day season doesn't make the impact insignificent. Especially when the NC recreational guys have a 2 28"+ fish
per day limit. It hardly makes the scales level out. Bottom line is it's all about politics and lobbyist.
