Default Seafari 25

Hey Brandon, Regarding your Grandpa's beautiful Seafari 25, I suspect the boats 6 month wait to be picked may have been due to the aftermath of the 73 oil embargo and the "energy crisis that followed through Jimmy Carters presidency. I fact I believe Mr Carter had solar panels installed on the White House in '77. I was a stocker in a grocery store then, and I remember the cost of peanut butter skyrocketing while Billy was sipping suds on the family farm, but I digress... Back to your Granpa's pretty blue Seafari - I noticed the hinged "toilet seat halves" on the back of the passenger seat pedestal - does that serve as support allowing the seat to be flipped back 1/4 turn so one may sit facing aft while the chef cooks the walleyes and steak? Perhaps an improvement over the 20 design eh?

Hi McGillicuddy, No the seat is fixed and upside down when the galley is in use. The toilet seats just hold the stove level. The difference I see in ours and some of ones i've seen on this site is that ours only has one piece that flips over instead of two. The 2 burner stove is to the left instead of the right of the sink. There was a fire years ago in the boat due to the alcohol stove so I've always been afraid to use it. I removed the stove and use a coleman now. It's not as convenient as the original but I still have it and may bring it out of reirement one day. I will try to dig up a pic with the galley in use

Hey McGillicuddy,

I was leafing through the 79 brochure and the red Sceptre has the identical unit to ours also with the "toilet seat" teak supports. It has 2 units actually 1 port 1 starboard...I wonder if there's an icebox or fridge in the other one...that would be nice. The only difference is ours sits on a 4-5" wooden riser. I guess that's for increasing the height of both the seat, and the sink and stove while in use.

Btw the only pic I could find wasn't a very good one. There weren't any walleye that day...just cheerios.

McGill, FYI here is a pic that shows the wood frame that the galley sits on. [image][/image]

Thanks Brandon,
Dang, that's a sweet boat. If you think about it try to get a side picture with just the pilot house enclosure up. Wow, That's a serious rig.

[image][/image] [image][/image] I hope this is what you're after. These were taken before the rear top was made. I used it like this for a couple years but the rear enclosure is much needed to keep out the skeeters at night on georgian bay.

I think I spotted the "famous" 23 Sceptre ladder that is used as a step to the bow on your 25. Looks just like the 23 ladder. Does it fold up and can be used as a boarding ladder and as an access ladder to the bow as on the 23's.

Good eye, et23,
It was a little more visible in Seafari 25's earlier thread.

Hey Brandon, hate to take up all of your time but I wonder if you might take some zoom pictures of that ladder (the one sitting behind the fenders next to the helm). Some of the guys have been looking to duplicate their old one for their Sceptres and Tsunamis. I believe you have a rare bit of classic Seacraft there. Dimensions would be great, too, eh. What a time capsule!

Hey guys, I've learned alot from this site so it's the least I can do.

Also the best I can do for now. This is the best pic I could find and couldn't figure out how to blow up the ladder but I saved the pic in larger format. Hope it helps. The boat is in storage but I may be able to go get some more pics and measurements in a few weeks when I visit the cottage.

Our ladder is used only for boarding. You'll notice in the full cockpit shot 2 black brackets on the starboard padded bolster(BTW I need 2 for port if anyone has some or knows where I can get them). Ours used to fold until I broke the top step getting in one day. I have since bolted on 2 pieces of wood painted white between the steps to beef her up. As far as I know, in the seafari25, the ladder is only used for boarding.

Brandon
