20SF Hull "Bulge"

Hi guys, i have been wanting to see if any of you have experienced this in your restorations. About 5 to 6 feet from the stern on both port and stbd sides there is a bulge in the hull topside. Will probably have to add some stiffening inside to bring it back out. Has anyone seen this occur before. Thanks

Port side from the inside....it's actually less of a bulge on this side.

Starboard side from the outside, here you can notice how unfair the topsides is.

how bizzare! No clue! I stiffened my hullsides with 4" thin wall pvc tube ripped lengthwise, bonded & laminated to the hullsides with 2 layers of biax and epoxy running fore and aft. the 1/2 circle shape provides great structural and stiffening physicals. I dont know if this will work for straightening that warp/bulge. I do know that once you get it straight, it may help kep it from hapenning again.

Brian is there any reason you did this,beside the obvious? I don't feel the sides are that flexible. Shoot me a picture and send to my regular email.

Is the transom out and the cap off at the same time? When did you notice the bulges? I would do the cap or transom one at a time not both at once. I beieve the hullsides will deform without the structural integrity of the cap or transom being in place (you can do one at a time but not both). I would put ratchet straps around the hull and start pulling the hullsides back together. Perhaps over a few days slowly tighteing the straps would diminish the bulges (you might need a turnbuckle to help as well). I beleive I have read a post somewhere about this several years ago on this or another site.

that happened to stricks 20. when the cap is off for a long time the hull sides will flex outward. he had to cut the cap to get it to fit and glass that back together. it happened to my brother also. he took the ratchet straps to pull it back together then took some 2x4's with notches in them that slid over the boat sides to keep them together. another one i heard of he had to glass some "hooks" on the inside of the boat and use a come-a-long to get them back together.

Well cut the cap / coamings to the height that i wanted. Placed the cap and it didn't fit...it seems the hull topsides as one of you guys suggested bowed out during the previous owners replacing of the transom / removal of the cap and deck. Si i went ahead and cut the bow section of the cap directly on the CL and it fit a bit snugger. I think with some nip / tuck ill be all good!!! Thanks for the input guys!!
