Painting my 75 20' SF

Hey all,
I purchased my '75 last year summer and it was extemely oxidized and alot of deep scratches and quite a few gouges from the bow along the flat chines and some along the keel.
I rubbed it out and waxed her the best I could. I do not want to spend 3000 for someone to paint it. I have read alot about Roll and tip with single part poly urethane such as interlux. I want to paint the hull a little deeper blue than it is now, and have a white underside.I am in need of advice on in no particular order

1. Best material to use to fix scratches/gouges and how to finish the repaired areas

2. Best ( least dangerous, but still good quality) paint.
I know 2 parts have the best result when done right but I dont want to spray.

3. How to get the dang thing on blocks to paint it !!!!

4. Any Gotchas since this is my first try.

I have been looking at Interlux Interdeck for the deck and hatches, so that will be a good primer on the roll and tip method. Not sure about what brand for the hull and bottom

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated !!

See if we can answer some of these.
* First of all, now that you have waxed it, you have to dewax it, clean well with a scour pad and either soft scrub or ajax, then a dewaxer.
*Then spot fill all the scratches and holes with a good quaility filler, either Adtech p77 or p78, or an epoxy fairing compound.
*Guide coat the hull.
*Sand with 180 or 220 grit.
*Prime by tampon roller only, two coats of finish primer.
I am partial to either Sterling or Awgrip for Roll n Tip.
I'm sure Interlux's Perfection is good also.
*guide coat primer, sand with 320 grit, spot fill imperfections, prime spotted areas, sand.
Get ready to roll n tip.
The most important thing in roll n tip is the brush, roller, weather and mixing ratio, not necesarliy in that order. Always remember, more prep is more better, what you have will always show through.
*Roll n tip, roll on (foam tampon) roller, brush off, (good badger) brush.
*Remember, good brush, good weather (no wind, no sun, low humidity), proper mixing ratios, and as always, paint flows better with beer!
*make sure to get the proper conerters and reducers for brushing.

And prepare for 3 coats topcoat, light sand between coats.

No beers for this part, put the boat where you want it, hopefully the bow is under a tree or shed with a strong crosspiece. Lower the front of the trailer all the way to the ground, instal either jackstands or blocks under the pt and stb aft chines, hook a chain fall or fork lift to the bow towing eye, lift er up, remove trailer, install block under bow, let down. if boat is empty (no motor or fuel) don't get in the bow.
*Last but not least, none of the two part paints are good for under the water line, they will blister after a period of time, either leave the gelcoat, bottom paint, or if it is going to be on a trailer the two parts will work, but remember you leave it in for two weeks or so and it WILL blister.

what is Guide coat ? You mention to guide coat the hull then later on you say prime with guide coat.. So are there 2 primer applications ?

No, or sorta no, guide coat is basically flat black laquer in a spray can, you spray it on (lightly, hence guide coat), then when you sand, you can a) see where you have been, b) see all the imperfections. You want two coats of primer, you should be able to go over the first coat an hour you have finished.
You want all (or as many of the imperfections filled before the primer application.

3. How to get the dang thing on blocks to paint it !!!!

Just back up to a tree, tie it to the tree, unhook from winch and drive the trailer out from underneath while blocking as you go.

Same in reverse to get it back on trailer but sometimes better to just put vehicle in neutral and use winch.

What.. don't you guys have any big trees down there ...anything solid will work. A fence, vehicle...I've never had a trailer for the Seafari and used to borrow one and used this method all the time. Our property sits on granite and I drilled an 1 1\4 hole in the rock and put a 1" pin in.

I do the same thing with the lobster boat but the trailer has a cable system that runs through a pulley at the rear and back up to the pin hole in the keel. I assume you could rig something like this on your trailer.

Thats the exact Blue I want to end up with. Mine is a few shades lighter. I was looking at the Interlux perfection Is that a Royal Blue, Lauderdale Blue,? blue balls ?
