Default BFT Trip (Wed. Aug 12) - SE of Glory Hole, NJ

A friend and I ran my SeaCraft out of Barnegat Inlet today to everyone's favorite BFT wreck location SE of the Glory Hole. We hit the inlet a little after 4am and had lines in the water by 6am. The 60 mile ride out was great. We did 25mph in the dark and went in the low 30's after the sun came up.

We decided to chunk and jig, while drifting. We started out about 3 miles east of the fleet. Marked some fish but no takers. We pulled the lines and reset about 1 mile east of the fleet.

We caught 4 BFT's (3 fish between 43 and 46 inches, and one at 48 inches). All fish were caught on the chunk near the bottom. We then pulled the lines and headed to the chicken canyon. On the way over we saw BFT's busting the surface. My friend picked up his small spinning combo setup and hooks into a nice BFT on a popper. The BFT almost smoked my friend's reel. The fish ended up pulling the hook. We then went pot hopping. We caught mahi and falsies.

The ride back home was very interesting. We hit a nice storm about 40 miles out. Lightening, horizontal rain and a big wind was out constant companion until we hit the inlet. The SeaCraft battled her way through.

I am ready to go back out.

Peter

Nice job Peter!, saw the pics on the bass barn. Looked absolutely beautiful out there. I was out in the Glory this past Saturday on my neighbor's contender, 0-1 on the troll, but stayed well away from the fleet of over 100 boats then. Lots of radio craziness that day as well.

I need the weather to settle for once to get back out there.

See the attached url

web page

Out of the 40 boats I saw out there, we were definately the smallest.

We flew out there. The ride back in was pretty hairy. I was 65 miles out. The first 20 miles was like glass and we motored along in the mid 30's. We then hit a very big storm. We had to drive through an angry cross sea in driving rains for the next 40+ miles. The SeaCraft plowed through the seas like a champ.

Nice fish! Closest thing to a tuna in my stomping grounds are bonita. A freind of mine runs his 23 out 50 - 60 miles in the Gulf all the time. The max in my 18 is about 30. I'm always the smallest boat out there! Good feelin' though...

Nice work Peter. Comin up to Fair Haven Sept. 8th...be around for a few days. Up to the city/Brooklyn for memorials on the 11th, may drive cross country with an old girlfiend, returning to drive out to Montauk on the 24th. Be back in MonCo for a few days (29-Oct. 2nd). Lost my invite to the Cape after almost 40 years. I guess things change. Anyway, last year all the Stripers were south of the Cape and the harbors were LOADED with bunker. Looking forward to coming up. Nice work with the BFT. Part II.

Oh yeah, gotta run some SC parts down to Don at Pipe Dreams. Maybe I'll look you up on the way up the Parkway. Believe I still have your cell. Be safe. Michael.

Good to hear fom you Mike. If the BFT's are still running when you are up here maybe we can get you out there.

They are a lot of fun.

Was out there yesterday on the troll on a 21 contender

Lots of life, turtles, whales, dolphins, skippies. Just big Albies and skippies on the troll for us. Probably around a dozen boats out there, heard of one or two bluefin caught on the chunk.

Basspond, any chance of you fishing the bay or the hook Wed. 9-9 or Thurs. 9-10? I'd almost certainly be alone, with Cash, Light Beer & Light Gear. Heading north for the 11th. Thanks. Part II.

If you're working, I'd be happy to meet you at the boat, check it out and buy you a few beers. If the weather is crap...Barnacles or Donovans. Thanks. Michael.
