Default fish finder

My question is pretty simple I have a koden cvs 822 fishfinder it turns on but nothing shows up on the screen the model is from 1980 I do believe. but im looking into upgrading into todays newer models .just wondering what everyone else was using? I do a lot of striper, cod, and tuna fishing..I already have a gps, radar so I'm not looking for a combined model but a seperate model just for depth, and finding fish. Any input would be greatly appreciated. THANKS..

I would go with the Furuno FCV 585 (1 KW) thats what I use. They also make a smaller unit at 600W its the FCV 660 I believe. Mine works great and it usually gets great reviews on most forums. Is that Henry's old Blue 23 the Tally Ho?

either Furuno or Lowrance, I do have a lowrance X98 head unit I just swapped out because it was too powerful, I'm usually under 50' but you guys probably run deeper up there.

Furuno is good stuff. The previous owner of my 20 installed a Raymarine C series system on it and I love it. Everything is crystal clear and it works great for finding bunker to cast net or offshore (attempting) to jig for tuna.

Humminbird Matrix 17 Fishfinder/Depthfinder/GPS combo. Great to use and easy. B/W display, though.

If you can buy 2 units . . . I'd go for one of the sidescan sonar units (Hummingbird or Lowrance) for shallow water and a nice Furuno unit for Deep fishing.

2 units is a great way to go if the cost is not a huge issue.

For what it is worth, I run a Lowrance XC111HD. It is an older unit but works great. It is one of the few that runs chart plotter and sonar on a screen large enough to see them both. I have it tied in to my motor so I get fuel data, tach, temp, motor alarms and hours. With the typical transom mount transducer I can fish 800 - 900 foot of water and see the bottom. I loose much of the detail out around 600' though.

I have debated the high power transducer but the cost is high and without knowing the increase in performance I have not wanted to spend the cash.

I have not used the Furuno units but I do love the Lowrance products. I have had them on my boats for the past 10 years. I hear the interface is tough to get used to, but I have no issues since these are the units I learned.
