Sceptre difference in years

I looked at a 87 Sceptre today and the windshield doesn't look like it is as strong as the earler model ones. The whole boat as far as hardware looked to be alot cheaper than the earlier model. Does anyone know why this is? maybe cause of the transfer of ownership of Seacraft (Tracker, New Brunswick) Kind of turned me off.
