Looking for some info on the best outboard motor lock.
Last fall, thieves almost got away with my new T8 yamaha kicker. They had nicely disconnected the electrical harness and shift/throttle controls.I had one of the slide on type(Master Lock)locks that slide and lock over the clamps. I also had the engine bolted to the permanent mount. The crooks were able to simply cut the end of the slide on lock with a pair of bolt cutters or a battery die cutter and slide the lock off. They also had only one mounting bolt left to remove before they got scared off by a passing store owner. I've researched some locks and have it down to three brands, all of which use a hardened cylinder that locks over one of the clamps. First is a Stazo which is made in the netherlands, second are the Mercury and Yamaha which(from what I hear)are similar to the Stazo. These are all a bit pricy, but worth it.I know that there is no such thing as 100% sure, but they are far better than the slide on types. I'm also going to use MCguard nuts along with permanent loctite on the mounting bolts. **Can anyone tell me where I can see pictures of the Merc and Yamaha locks? I tried their websites but don't see them listed*** If anyone has experience with any of these or another type,I'd like to hear about it. I'm Not interested in a slide on type like the master lock one, they're too easy to cut Any info is appreciated, thanks all.
