My father and I purchased this boat in October 2013 and have been working hard on it since. We are getting close to finishing it and though I would share. The boat was in perfect condition when we bought it; however, it had twin 1977 two stroke 175 Evinrude outboards. We sold the motors, enclosed the transom, installed an armstrong bracket and put a 300 Yamaha 4-stroke on her. Here are a few pictures of the project... I will post more when its 100% complete.

Nice job. The static trim looks good even with that big motor sittin' out there on the bracket.

Looks really nice. I would love to see some performance numbers on that set-up as it is exactly what I am planning on doing. You may have already seen my rebuild thread, but I have a 76 Sceptre that I enclosed and installed a Hermco bracket. I will also go with a 300.
What do you have behind the 2 doors on the inside of the transom? I have doors as well and intend to insall some shelves or something that will help me store stuff in there. Also, what type of rub rail do you intend to install? That is one of my next projects. |

We are installing a taco rub rail.
The first run produced 4.1 mpg at 29 mph. There was only 10 gallons in the boat at the time and it was very light. WOT was 55mph!! We installed the batteries on both sides behind the hatches near the livewell. We are going to use both sides for storage as a 5 gallon bucket fits perfectly. |

We are nearing completion with the mods we made to the Sceptre. With a full tank and three people she runs 51 WOT and burns 3.4-3.5 mpg @ 27-28 mph which I am very happy with! Next step is to install the hard top.
