Default 1982 20ft sf repowering

I’m debating on the engine to put I keep hearing these are very bow light boats keep in mind this is my first one .. I seen a decent deal on a 200xs which weighs 505 would that take away from the ride ? I seen up to 250xs on them but I’m not that much of a speed demon but I don’t wanna do more then 50 but I would love a fourstroke I prefer to do a lot of fishing on it first . I have a 140 Suzuki 4stroke but I read and heard from ppl I might not get passed 40 and that’s not me lol

Others can provide the technical details, but basicly a 200 4 stoke is both too much power and way way too heavy. The boat will be far better riding with a 2 stroke under 150hp or equivalent weight 4 stroke. If you are going to fish in open water, its more important to be able to plane slow and the heavier motors won't do that. I had a 20 seafari with a 150 two stroke. We loaded it far beyond its official weight limit and it still too fast to use most of the speed in open water.

You want to keep motor weight under 400 lbs.

I run a 2004 Evinrude 150 DI on my 19'. Very nice balance of power and light weight at just over 400lbs. tops out at about 46mph, planes at under 15mph. Scuppers out of water unless I am standing in one corner.

My 1979 Master Angler has a ‘99 carbed Johnson 175 and is a little hard on fuel, and though I’ve never GPS’d it, she’s close to 50, which is fun!

Last weekend I recorded a 38.9 knot maximum speed on my 1972 Seafari 20' - with bimini up, two guys at 450 lbs total, 35 gallons fuel - at 5500 rpms - from my 115hp Johnson 2-stroke. Guys, 44.7 mph on this hull is plenty fast. I cannot imagine having a 200 hp behemoth on the stern.

Do not have a flowscan meter, so I cannot say what fuel burn was at WOT.

You will only run 50 in that boat on slick calm water. Any seas at that speed will send your butt flying...and puckering!

That's probably a thing you don't really want to know! All's good.
