Default Extending outboard shaft for taller transoms

The other night during insomnia I googled changing from 20” to 25” shafts. Even saw Bigshrimpin’s name in one remark and was surprised there were some 5” extension kits from Bay Mfg. for my ETEC. I was wondering what is the most recent experience with this approach as opposed to replacing the 20”
shaft. As a retired engineer who designed shafts, albeit at much faster rotational speeds, the thought of something two piece and not knowing exactly how they are joined (supported, etc.) surprised me. Any updated experience? Thx
