Default Replacing the transom of my 68 Moesly DC.

I need to replace the transom, because its bowing and flexes whenever I lift the foot of the motor. I have though about closing in the transom, it knotched currently, and adding a live well and fish box. I thought about the new synthetic nidacore decking, and adding an engine bracket.
a. has anyone ever done this?
b. What level of expertise is needed to pull it off?
c. Is there a better way?
