how to remove scuppers?

My SC has deck scuppers that go down about 2 inches and back about 12 inches out the transom. They leak around the pvc where it exits the transom. I am debating just replacing the pvc and glassing it in the transom to seal it or have the scupper system go directly horizontal through the transom.

How do I remove the old pvc piping. Sorry, no pic at this time but I will add some later if needed.
