Has anyone ever considered putting the Yanmar 200hp I/O in on a 20ft. It's around 1060lbs.

Having now had both a SeaCraft 18' and 20', my goal would be to find the lightest engine that would reasonably push the boat.
Although an I/O option would place the primary weight of the engine farther forward than if it were an outboard, putting a half ton engine in a boat whose hull weighs just 1600#'s wouldn't be the first thing that came to mind. |

Rudder, thought I like like the idea of the engine being midship, i would think that would eat up a lot of precious bilge room in the 20.

this reminds me a bit about the early plans for the "Flicka", which was/is a Pacific Seacraft 20 (sailboat). By anyones description, this is one tiny boat and yet the original designer thought about rigging it as a ketch! (that's TWO masts for those of you not into blow boats).
My point is that the SeaCraft 20 is a 19'8" boat - a small boat by anyones estimation. In addition, it already suffers from being a bit tail-heavy in the water. Will adding a 1060# engine REALLY be the best option out there? |

Mark, is it really such an idea that even the simple discussion of it on a forum is considered to be ridiculous.
To be honest 1060lbs may not be the best power option but to me a 500 lb outboard set 3ft off the transom isn't all that light either. |

With the merc dti diesel you are looking at about 1200 lbs, so just a bit more more weight than even I would would consider. ( Some2where in the distance I can hear Mark laughing at me)
